You soon feel at home when you have people around you with whom you feel comfortable. On the other hand, if the people around you speak a language you do not understand, it can feel rather uncomfortable. Are they talking about you? Could you be missing something important? If you really want to feel at home in the Netherlands, it is best to learn to speak Dutch.

The British writer and artist Edmund de Waal wrote: ‘With languages you are at home anywhere.’  If you speak another person’s language, it is very easy to make contact. And while many Dutch people speak English, for deeper, more meaningful contact, it helps to speak Dutch.

Start with a good foundation

Learning a foreign language is not particularly complicated—if you approach it the right way, that is. For many expats, taking weekly Dutch lessons does not really work. When everyone continues to speak English to you, the leap to speaking Dutch in everyday life is simply too big. You need to make sure you have enough knowledge to really speak Dutch in practice.

Personal attention in private lessons

At Language Institute Regina Coeli, you can learn Dutch in an intensive training course. You receive private lessons from Dutch language trainers while staying at our institute in Vught for a few days. With us, you can fully focus on learning the Dutch language, and can practice with other students as well. Perhaps you will even meet a Dutch person who is just starting to learn your own language.  A great deal of networking gets done that way at Regina Coeli. After an intensive Dutch training course, you can chit chat quite a bit in Dutch and better understand what the Dutch are talking about with one another.

Feeling at home = better learning

At Regina Coeli, we do everything we can to make you feel at home: the catering and housekeeping staff make sure you do not want for anything, and the language trainers support you in your learning process. Hospitality is exceptionally important to us, because we know that students learn better when they feel at ease.
