Do you want to become a confident public speaker while picking up some serious leadership experience? If so, Toastmasters is the place for you!
At Toastmasters, you learn by doing, and your fellow club members help you reach your goals at your own pace. The environment in a Toastmasters club is friendly and supportive. Everyone at a Toastmasters meeting feels welcome and valued – from complete beginners to advanced speakers.
In a club meeting, you practice giving prepared speeches as well as brief impromptu presentations, known as Table Topics. Constructive evaluation is central to the Toastmasters philosophy. Each time you give a prepared speech, an evaluator will point out strengths as well as suggest improvements. Receiving – and giving – such feedback is a great learning experience. In Toastmasters, encouragement and improvement go hand-in-hand.
During this year’s mini TM meeting at the Feel at Home Fair you’ll get a peek into a Table Topics® session and get a chance to practice speaking off the cuff yourself.
What is “Table Topics®”? It is a long-standing Toastmasters tradition intended to help members develop their ability to organize their thoughts quickly and respond to an impromptu question or topic. Your Table Topics master will present you with a question, which you then have 1 to 2 minutes to answer. Can you think on your feet? Improvise? Are you willing to try?
Table Topics is exciting, gets the creative juices flowing and is great practice for so many situations in life. Most of all…it’s great FUN!
